Vom kaltblütigen Mörder zum Nationalhelden – Elor Azaria und die Tragik israelischer Politik - Das Brennglas auf Israels Gesellschaft

Für die Exekution eines reglos am Boden liegenden palästinensischen Attentäters wurde Elor Azaria wegen Totschlags verurteilt und saß neun Monate im Gefängnis. Spätestens nach seiner Freilassung wurde er zum Nationalhelden und Posterboy für Israels politische Rechte. Seine Geschichte offenbart tiefe Einblicke in Israels militaristische und rassistische Politik und Gesellschaft.

…… Um die Verhältnismäßigkeit dieses Urteils ins rechte Licht zu rücken, ein kurzer Blick auf Ahed Tamimi – jene palästinensische Teenagerin, die ebenfalls weltweite Bekanntheit erlangte und deren Fall sich zeitlich mit dem von Elor Azaria überschnitt. Kurz nachdem ihr jüngerer Cousin Mohammed von israelischen Soldaten aus nächster Nähe ins Gesicht geschossen wurde, wurde die damals 16-Jährige Ahed gefilmt, wie sie einem bewaffneten israelischen Soldaten, den sie von ihrem Grundstück vertreiben wollte, ins Gesicht schlug.

Für diese Ohrfeige wurde die Palästinenserin Ahed zu acht Monaten Gefängnis verurteilt, während der Israeli Azaria für die Hinrichtung eines reglos am Boden Liegenden neun Monate saß – Unrechtsjustiz im Apartheidstaat Israel.....

….. Das Urteil gegen Elor Azaria spaltete die israelische Gesellschaft. Die Rechte stilisierte ihn zum Nationalhelden und forderte seine Freilassung…... Neben einigen Ministern der rechtsextremen israelischen Regierung, die ihre bedingungslose Solidarität mit Azaria kundtaten, forderte auch Ministerpräsident Benjamin Netanjahu die Begnadigung des jungen Soldaten. Zumeist von der ultrareligiösen Rechten wurden in Solidarität mit Elor Azaria Massendemonstrationen organisiert. „Tod den Arabern!“ wurde ebenso frenetisch skandiert wie „Elor, unser Held.“ .....

Nach seiner Freilassung im vergangenen Mai wurde Azaria endgültig zum israelischen Helden – zum A-Promi, der im Luxus lebt, wie das israelische Magazin Mako berichtet............ Nach seiner Freilassung besuchte Azaria mit seinen Eltern den Tatort in Hebron im Viertel Tel Rumeida – eine illegale israelische Siedlung – und wurde von den zumeist rechtsextremen, ultrareligiösen Siedlern wie ein Rockstar empfangen und gefeiert. Auch mehrere Minister instrumentalisierten das Medienspektakel um Azaria und überschütteten ihn mit Lobesreden und forderten, sein Führungszeugnis solle gelöscht werden.

..... Doch Israels Politik folgt einer militaristischen Logik, nach der Mord an Palästinensern kein Makel in der eigenen Vita ist, sondern eine Medaille, die mit Stolz getragen wird. Auch sind Hinrichtungen von verwundeten Palästinensern im Tagesgeschäft israelischer Soldaten keine Ausnahme, sondern vielmehr die gängige Praxis der israelischen Armee,..... Die Krankheit ist das Apartheid-Justizsystem Israels, in dem palästinensischen Jugendlichen für das Werfen von Steinen 20 Jahre Gefängnis drohen, während vor Elor Azaria seit 2000 nicht ein einziger Soldat wegen Totschlags – geschweige denn Mord – an den unzähligen ermordeten Palästinensern verurteilt wurde....

Die Geschichte des Elor Azaria ist das Brennglas auf die israelische Gesellschaft, die zerfressen ist vom Rassismus und den Hass auf „den Araber“ braucht, um Jahrzehnte der systematischen Unterdrückung Palästinas und das Abdriften in die Apartheid vor sich selbst rechtfertigen zu können – und in der die linken, progressiven, pazifistischen Kräfte derart impotent sind, dass sie kaum der Erwähnung wert sind.

... The new Inquisition comes after a watershed 2018 Congressional election swept into office a new progressive class of American politicians. Among its ranks are three remarkable women, Representatives Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who challenged the system, incumbents, and the Democratic machine to win landslide victories on truly progressive platforms....

... Tlaib and Omar have even openly supported the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement. Anyone familiar with the Israel lobby in Washington knew that the other shoe was bound to drop. And it didn't take Long.....

.... Ilhan Omar does not hate Jews or Israel. She has never said or written any such thing. Attacking one of the most powerful domestic US lobbies is not anti-Semitic. Supporting BDS is not anti-Semitic either. This non-violent movement advocating justice for Palestinians harbours no animus towards Jews. Its three demands for the right of return, full democratic rights for Palestinians in Israel, and an end to occupation have nothing to do with Jews per se.

The implied criticism of the Israeli status quo inherent in BDS activism does not constitute anti-Semitism....

... Today there is a countervailing force of progressive Democrats, Jews and non-Jews, who no longer take marching orders from the white, male, plutocrats of the Israel lobby. They have become strong enough not only to bring the likes of Omar to Congress but also to keep them there and grow their numbers....

Wie rasch es still geworden ist um die Fälschungsaffäre beim SPIEGEL. Mir scheint, wichtige Fragen sind noch nicht einmal aufgeworfen. Welche Bedürfnisse erfüllten die gefälschten Stories? Warum werden extrem personalisierte Erzählungen vom Weltgeschehen mit Preisen überhäuft? Und wo grenzt die Fälschung an die gewohnheitsmäßigen Legenden, wenn sich der weiße Blick auf andere Kulturen richtet?

….. Distanz ist als Haltung, als Betrachterposition, zunehmend delegitimiert worden, zugunsten einer rhetorischen Unmittelbarkeit – dem vermeintlichen Blick von innen, wie Relotius ihn hochtalentiert herbei fabulieren konnte. Gibt es womöglich eine Verbindung zu den neoliberalen Individualismus-Exzessen, dem alltäglichen Ich-Ich-Ich-Gejapse, wenn personalisierte Erzählstrukturen nun dem hochkomplexen Rest der Welt übergeworfen werden? Und wo beginnt da die Fälschung?.....

…. In diesen Tagen ist oft von einer postkolonialen Globalisierung die Rede. Museen und Ethnologen beginnen einzusehen, dass sie Kontrolle abgeben müssen und nicht mehr die Zentralperspektive beanspruchen können. Was gibt der weiße Journalismus ab? Nichts. Auf die Zukunft ist er schlecht vorbereitet.....

European Values???? Abuse, 'survival sex' a stark reality for child migrants

Growing number of unaccompanied migrant children are exploited in transit and country of destination, IFRC report says.

Unaccompanied child migrants face dangerous journeys during transit, including abuse and detention, rights organisations have warned, highlighting significant failings in safeguarding unaccompanied minors.

A recent report by UNHCR revealed that nearly 140,000 people arrived in Greece, Italy and Spain in search of safety in 2018. Almost 11,000 of the new arrivals were unaccompanied children.

Additionally, according to the Red Cross, more than 300,000 unaccompanied child migrants are currently at high risk of sexual and gender-based violence during transit.

Violence breeds more violence in Kashmir

As the militarisation of Kashmir has grown, so have victimisation and radicalisation.

Under the Indian rule, having patiently clamoured for the UN-mandated self-determination for decades since 1947 and suffering erosions to the autonomy thrust upon them through the dubious instrument of accession, the Kashmiris are increasingly losing faith in the tools of justice and liberty that this world has to offer. 

Australia's offshore refugee policy has failed

 Such policies may seem like a quick win with some domestic constituencies, but they are not wins in the long run. 

There is also an important lesson here for other countries who might be looking at Australia's policy as an example of how to stoke fear about - and among - people seeking safety..... Ultimately they are inhumane, unlawful, unsustainable, costly, and damaging to a country's reputation.

….. Between 1900 and 1970, an estimated 100,000 Aboriginal children were forcibly removed from their homes and communities and placed with either white families or institutions, according to the landmark 1997 Bringing Them Home report, which heard the stories of people such as Morley.

On February 13, 2008, the then-Prime Minister Kevin Rudd issued a historic national apology to the stolen children….

…. The report found more than half live with a disability or have a chronic health condition; 70 percent rely on government welfare, and are more than three times as likely to have been jailed in the past five years compared with other Aboriginal people….

Decades of Israeli efforts to demolish, destroy, rename, rewrite and erase everything Palestinian have been in vain.

For those claims to acquire a degree of plausibility and for the myth of Palestine as "a land without a people for a people without a land" to be solidified, the Zionist movement needed to erase the very existence of the Palestinian People...

There Is a Taboo Against Criticizing AIPAC — and Ilhan Omar Just Destroyed It

I couldn’t help but be reminded of this anecdote after Rep. Ilhan Omar, of Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, was slammed by Democrats and Republicans alike over her suggestion, in a pair of tweets, that U.S. politicians back the state of Israel because of financial pressure from AIPAC (“It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” she declaimed). Was the flippant way in which she phrased her tweets a problem? Did it offend a significant chunk of liberal U.S. Jewish opinion? Did it perhaps unwittingly play into anti-Semitic tropes about rich Jews controlling the world? Yes, yes, and yes — as she herself has since admitted and “unequivocally” apologized for. But was she wrong to note the power of the pro-Israel lobby, to point a finger at AIPAC, to highlight — in her apology — “the problematic role of lobbyists in our politics, whether it be AIPAC, the NRA or the fossil fuel industry”?.....

Mit durchschnittlich sechs Toten pro Tag sei das Mittelmeer 2018 wieder die weltweit gefährlichste Seeroute gewesen, teilte das Flüchtlingshilfswerk UNHCR am Mittwoch in Genf mit. Insgesamt seien dort im vergangenen Jahr 2.275 Migranten und Flüchtlinge ertrunken.

 „Statt die Transitländer in Nordafrika zu immer mehr Abschottungsmaßnahmen zu nötigen, muss die EU Menschen in Not legale und sichere Fluchtwege eröffnen“, sagte die innenpolitische Sprecherin Ulla Jelpke. Laut UNHCR brachten Küstenwachschiffe Tausende Flüchtlinge und Migranten zurück nach Libyen, wo sie unter entsetzlichen Bedingungen festgehalten würden.....
